Azerbaijan facing difficulties in export of persimmon to Russia

The war between Russia and Ukraine and the depreciation of the Russian ruble have caused great damage to the export of Azerbaijani persimmons, Report informs with reference to the chairman of the Azerbaijan Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association, Gadir Yusifov.

Yusifov noted that exports to Russia continue: “All the cars that were delivering persimmons from Azerbaijan to Ukraine were sent to Moscow. Currently, in the markets of Russia, in wholesale shopping centers, there are vehicles with persimmons. Sales are going on, but the income received is only enough to pay customs and transport costs. The depreciation of the ruble caused great damage to the export of persimmons. Despite this, the export of products continues.”

“One can say that the Ukrainian market no longer exists. The economic situation in Russia has worsened. I do not believe that this will lead to good results for us. Azerbaijan produces more than 200,000 tons of persimmon per year, and the absence of a new market can create serious problems,” Yusifov said.

“I have repeatedly applied to the relevant structures regarding the search for new markets for the export of persimmons. But I didn't get a proper answer. They note that they are trying to find new markets. But in fact, there is no result,” the chairman of the association said.
