Dry cargo ship IKARIA ANGEL, chartered by the UN World Food Program, has left the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, Report informs citing RBC-Ukraine.
It will deliver over 30,000 tons of wheat to Ethiopia, which, according to the UN, is on the verge of a food disaster.
“According to UN estimates, 70 million of the socially unprotected population of the world, including in Africa and Asia, are on the verge of starvation precisely because of the hostilities in Ukraine,” said Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.
In addition to IKARIA ANGEL, 9 more ships departed from Ukrainian ports on September 17. In the course of the implementation of the Initiative for the Safe Transportation of Agricultural Products, 23 ships have already departed from Ukrainian ports to African countries. They carry 0.64 million tons of food on board. In total, 159 ships out of 3.6 million tons of agricultural products left Ukrainian ports.
