Azerbaijan embraces new environmental standards to address climate change

Azerbaijan has adopted new ecological standards in a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND).

The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute, operating under State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control within the Economy Ministry, has introduced these standards to align with best international practices.

These standards were developed as part of a joint project titled "Quality Infrastructure for Green Transformation" (QI4GT) between AZSTAND and Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the National Metrology Institute of Germany.

The primary objective of implementing these state standards is to establish principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas inventories at the organizational level. Additionally, they aim to determine baseline emission levels, monitor emissions, and define verification and validation processes, including planning and assessment procedures.

The new state standards were discussed in the Technical Committee on "Ecology" Standardization (AZSTAND/TK 08) before being adopted by AZSTAND and included in the State Fund of normative documents on standardization.
