G7 trade ministers to discuss WTO reform

The UK authorities intend to use the online meeting of the G7 trade ministers to discuss the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO), reads a statement issued by the UK Department for International Trade, which chairs the association this year, Report informs.

The UK is using the upcoming meeting to launch a reform of the WTO so that the organization can respond to the challenges of unfair trade practices and make trade part of the solution to climate change, reads the statement.

The first such event, which will take place March 31, will also include the new WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who was previously invited by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to the June G7 summit in the resort town of Carbis Bay on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, and a representative of the European Union.

The statement indicates that UK Secretary of State for International Trade Elizabeth Truss will also urge partners to develop principles for digital commerce, highlighting the common goals of countries regarding open digital markets and combating protectionism.
