ASCO achieves IMO's 2030 emissions target ahead of schedule

The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) has successfully reduced its emissions by 20% compared to 2012 levels, surpassing the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) target for 2030 well ahead of schedule, said Rauf Valiyev, Chairman of the Board of ASCO, Report informs.

Valiyev revealed this achievement during a panel discussion themed Voyage to the Future: Decarbonization in Shipping for a Sustainable Tomorrow, held as part of COP29.

He emphasized that this success demonstrates ASCO's commitment to environmental responsibility and its dedication to making significant contributions to sustainability.

“Reaching this milestone was not an easy task," Valiyev stated. "We achieved this by investing in new vessels, retrofitting existing ones, decommissioning older ships, and improving energy efficiency. Our ultimate goal is to attain zero emissions by 2050."

Valiyev also mentioned that as a shipping company, ASCO is actively working to reduce its impact on climate change. The company is engaged in developing sustainable solutions and exploring strategies to decrease carbon emissions, he added.
