An international conference on national human rights is set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in October 2024, said Sabina Aliyeva, Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the "Law and Climate" international conference in Baku on September 6, Aliyeva highlighted that the upcoming event, dedicated to COP29, will witness the participation of leaders from various countries and international organizations worldwide. The conference will also focus on the pressing issue of climate change.

According to her, Azerbaijan's Constitution ensures the provision of a healthy environment for its citizens.

"The right to live in a healthy environment is crucial for the social well-being of citizens. However, recent global developments have led to significant challenges between nature and society, " Aliyeva emphasized.

Aliyeva stressed the importance of preserving the environment and finding solutions to ecological problems.

The Commissioner highlighted the special significance of COP in the fight against climate change, stating that hosting this event in Azerbaijan is a testament to the trust placed in the country by the international community.

Aliyeva also drew attention to the negative impact of war on the environment, specifically mentioning Armenia's contamination of Azerbaijani territories with landmines and the plundering of natural resources during the war, and the post-war period, which has been brought to the attention of the world community.
