The future of energy systems lies in a transition towards partial decentralization, which will allow for more efficient energy use, Ivan Kukhnin, a sustainability partner at Deloitte Netherlands, said at the event "From Dream to Reality: Regional and Global Impact of Renewable Energy" organized by NEQSOL Holding on the sidelines of COP29, Report informs.
Kukhnin emphasized that significant changes in this area are inevitable.
According to him, existing centralized energy systems are characterized by inefficient and complex energy transmission from large energy production points.
"Partial decentralization of energy systems is one of the key directions for the future. Traditionally, energy is transmitted from large centers, but a two-way system can be more efficient. In this system, consumers not only receive energy but can also return excess energy back to the system," Kukhnin said.
