Deputy minister: Cities play key role in ensuring energy efficiency

Cities play a key role in ensuring energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Tagiyeva said at a high-level roundtable on nature, healthcare, and agriculture in cities held within the framework of COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

Taghiyeva emphasized that it is important to make cities resilient to climate change and implement urban adaptation measures.

She noted that cities also play an important role in reducing the negative impact of climate change and ensuring energy efficiency: "One of the ways to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C is to increase investments in building energy efficiency through favorable policies and legislative framework."

The deputy minister added that cities can become the main drivers of climate action, playing a central role in implementing national climate goals.
