An event titled "Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism: Innovative Solutions and Way Forward" was held as part of COP29.
According to Report, the event focused on possible measures regarding climate change's impact on tourism.
Head of Tourism Policy and Strategy Department at the State Tourism Agency, Gunay Bayramova, noted in her speech that a tourism day was organized for the first time in COP history. "We are doing everything possible to incorporate climate action into tourism policy. We strive to maximize tourism opportunities," she said.
Speakers noted that for sustainable tourism development, it's important not only to reduce carbon footprint and implement decarbonization measures but also to adopt adaptation measures in response to global warming and ecosystem changes. It was also emphasized that climate financing for tourism receives insufficient attention. An important step for tourism sustainability is the adoption of relevant laws and tax reforms at the national level.
In conclusion, the impact of climate change on the tourism sector and measures that need to be taken in this area were discussed.
