Some 3,000 GW of renewable energy are ready to connect to global grids, the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, said at a press conference during COP29, Report informs.
He noted that 670 GW of renewable energy has already been added to the global grid: "This is significant growth. However, approximately 3,000 GW of renewable energy is ready to connect to the grids, which is about 5 times more than what we added this year. However, there is no grid in the world capable of accepting such capacity."
Birol added that there are installations for this: "But we cannot deliver it to consumers, homes, industrial enterprises, and residential buildings. This is economically inefficient. Because until now, the world has focused on building 'green power plants.' But we forgot that we need grids to transmit it to consumers. Now we are trying to solve the related problems."
