The main goal is to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions worldwide by 2050, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport of Germany Hartmut Höppner said at the event "Decarbonization of Transport: Policies and Strategies for Civil Aviation, Maritime and Inland Transport" within COP29.
Report quotes him as saying this goal becomes an even more challenging task, especially considering the high level of fossil fuel use in the transport sector: "We must rethink and rebuild our economy and society. This comes not only from our desire but from the necessity to fight climate change."
Touching upon the importance of international cooperation, he emphasized that no country can solve the automotive industry's problems alone. "Germany invites the European Union, USA, and other countries to international cooperation," said Höppner.
