Global climate change is the main threat to economic and financial stability, International Monetary Fund (IMF) representative Alessandra Alfieri said at an event dedicated to the global vision of net-zero progress within COP29.
According to Report, she said the IMF considers climate issues as one of its main areas of activity: "For this reason, the IMF now also takes climate issues into account in Article IV consultations, which provide assessment of countries' economic and financial situations. We develop charts and indicators reflecting countries' economic and financial positions, and we also support countries in developing climate policy."
She also added that the IMF is currently working on a climate change statistics program in 10 countries.
