Baku's call for climate action in the name of peace, salvation, and restoration confirms global commitments and offers recommendations focused on solving critical issues such as water scarcity, food security risks, land degradation, and climate-induced population displacement, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at the high-level ministerial panel discussion "Climate and Peace: Joint Actions That Leave No One Behind" within COP29, according to Report.
"By advocating for adequate financing for the most vulnerable populations, sustainable land and water resource management, sustainable food systems, and adaptation strategies in conflict situations, the Baku call serves as a framework for action uniting various stakeholders in their common vision," Bayramov said.
He noted that the Baku Climate and Peace Action Center was also established under the call, an unprecedented cooperation platform and mechanism for enhancing synergy and combining efforts developed at previous meetings of the parties, such as the COP27 initiative "Climate Response Measures to Maintain Peace."
According to Bayramov, the Baku center is committed to turning promises into concrete actions, promoting the mobilization of financial and technical resources to support climate change adaptation and resilience in vulnerable regions, especially in small island developing states and least developed countries.
