Minister: UAE commits to transforming tourism sector in combat climate change

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains dedicated to transforming the tourism sector in the fight against climate change, according to the UAE's Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Report informs.

Speaking at the First Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector, held as part of the COP29, Al Marri emphasized the critical role of tourism in both driving economic growth and combating climate change.

"Tourism is not only a vital economic driver but also a sector highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change," Al Marri stated. "As a key contributor to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in many countries, tourism is crucial for sustainability and inclusivity."

The minister stressed the need for the tourism sector to become a central focus in the fight against climate change, calling for a transformation within the industry. "We are committed to this transformation," he affirmed. "Sustainable tourism is a foundational element of the economic diversification concept within the UAE's Centennial Strategy. We are implementing initiatives aimed at decarbonizing tourism operations, restoring ecosystems, and strengthening climate resilience."
