The progress achieved at COP29 holds great significance for the climate agenda, said Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Report informs.
Speaking at a press conference held within the framework of COP29, Stiell noted, “We have received signals from two G20 countries, the UK and Brazil, who have just submitted their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). They plan to enhance their actions to combat climate change."
He highlighted the importance of the new Biennial Transparency Reports, which are set to be published this year, as one of the truly crucial tools. "These reports help create a factual database for more effective climate policy. We have seen some of them submitted, and more are in the process of preparation," Stiell added.
Despite the notable progress, the secretary stressed that much work still needs to be done to achieve the expected outcomes at COP29.
