The tourism industry cannot adequately develop without attention to nature conservation and following climate change trends, Simonida Kordic, Montenegrin Minister of Tourism, said at the First Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism, held as part of COP29, Report informs.
"Although Montenegro is a small country, it is developing in terms of tourism opportunities. Tourism is a key sector in Montenegro. This is actually a strategic sector for us and accounts for approximately 30% of GDP. Thus, you can imagine how important this sector is for us," he emphasized.
According to Kordic, Montenegro cannot remain indifferent to the impact of climate change on tourism: "If we don't pay attention to protecting nature and follow climate change trends, we cannot properly develop tourism.”
“We have accepted the necessity of expanding the tourist season beyond its typical and traditional boundaries towards a 365-day season. Surprisingly, climate change actually supports this goal by creating an opportunity to meet such a need. Additionally, Montenegro aims to present itself as a unique tourism destination that is available and accessible to everyone," she mentioned.
