Joint event of Azerbaijani and foreign NGOs for COP29 held at UN

A parallel event titled "Towards a More Inclusive COP29: Integrating Key Trends in Gender Equality and Intersectoral Alignment for Achieving Climate Justice" was organized within the framework of the UN Future Summit in New York, USA. The event was jointly organized by the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and the Public Association "Azerbaijan Youth Gender Equality Center" (Gender Hub).

According to Report, the event partners included UN Women, Women Major Group, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN, and the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.
Maryam Majidova, a member of the COP29 organizing committee and chairperson of the Gender Hub Public Association, moderated the event, which was attended by 60 NGO representatives from 35 countries. She informed the participants about the main essence of the event and spoke about the gender aspects of climate justice.

Dr. Mithika Mwenda, Executive Director of PACJA, Dr. Jemima Njeky, Head of UN Women's Economic Empowerment, and Harriet Chiggai, Advisor to the President of Kenya on Women's Rights, delivered reports. During their speeches, they appreciated the importance of Azerbaijan's global initiatives related to COP29.
The event included panel discussions on various topics, such as "Strengthening Women's Economic Opportunities, Information, and Climate Change" with the participation of Florence Syevuo, Executive Director of the Kenyan NGO SDG Forum, "Military Human Rights, Peace, and Climate Change" with the participation of K.S. Ojaswi, Executive Director of the Nepal Center for Human Rights and Justice HRJC, "Enhancing the Role of Indigenous Peoples in the New Economy: Merging Ancient and Innovative Knowledge" with the participation of Aytakin Asgarova, founder of IndiGenius Global, "Gender Just Climate Solutions: Women's Leadership on the Ground and Its Impact on Climate Policy at the National Level" with the participation of Sascha Gabizon, Executive Director of WMG/WECF, and "Climate Justice Framework for Gender, Racial, and Economic Equality: Pathways for Regulating the Transition" with the participation of Osprey Orielle Lake, Executive Director of WECAN.

Aygun Aliyeva, a member of the COP29 organizing committee and Executive Director of the Agency for State Support to NGOs, also participated in the event.

The event concluded with a question and answer session, following which the participants signed a joint statement.
