UNESCO ready to contribute to combating climate change

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is ready to contribute to the fight against climate change, reads an address by UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Culture, Ernesto Renato Ottone Ramirez, to participants of the high-level ministerial meeting at COP29, Report informs.

The address states that climate change also poses a threat to the preservation of peoples' cultural heritage.

"By 2100, 60% of glaciers could disappear. The planet's natural resources are also under threat of extinction. We know that people's lives are closely connected with culture. That's why we are studying the impact of climate change on culture," the message states.

Ramirez emphasized that cultural preservation should also be included in the climate agenda.

"Culture should be one of the key issues on the agenda. UNESCO is ready to contribute to the fight against climate change," he noted.
