Zaur Mikayilov: Sustainable water resource management depends not only on state policy

Sustainable water resource management is not limited to state policy alone; it is also a collective social responsibility, chairman of Azerbaijan's State Water Resources Agency, Zaur Mikayilov, said at the event "Managing Sustainable Water and Energy Transition" organized by ACWA Power within the framework of COP29.

According to Report, he emphasized the importance of public participation and awareness on water resource issues.

"Azerbaijan has initiated community engagement programs aimed at raising awareness about water protection and responsible use, as well as the importance of climate change. We strive to integrate efficient water use into public consciousness so that people and communities can actively contribute to global security and sustainability," said Mikayilov.

The head of the State Agency added that climate change, including increased precipitation, rising temperatures, and intensifying extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, pose threats to water resources worldwide.
