Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of Restoration of Independence on October 18.
Report informs that the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the Constitutional Act "On State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" on October 18, 1991.
The Constitutional Act referred to the Declaration of Independence of May 28, 1918, and the Declaration of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 30, 1991, "On the restoration of state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan". In keeping with this document, Azerbaijan was declared the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
For the third time since 1991, the people of Azerbaijan celebrate this holiday in a completely different way, as a victorious nation that has restored its territorial integrity. The people of Azerbaijan established an independent republic at the beginning of the last century, and in 1991 the Republic of Azerbaijan regained its independence as the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
In May 1992, the parliament approved the national anthem of Azerbaijan, and later the national flag as well as the coat-of-arms depicting an eight-pointed star with flames.
At the plenary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament on October 15, 2021, a new bill "On Independence Day" was adopted. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev signed the bill into law.
With the approval of the law, May 28 - Republic Day and October 18 - State Independence Day were renamed. May 28 was declared Independence Day and October 18 was declared the Day of Restoration of Independence.
This year, Independence Day in Azerbaijan is celebrated in a completely different atmosphere. On September 19 of this year, local anti-terrorist measures were launched in the region in order to ensure the provisions of the Trilateral Declaration, prevent large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region, disarm and withdraw the Armenian armed forces units from our territories, neutralize their military infrastructure, ensure the safety of civilians returning to the liberated territories and the civil workers and military personnel involved in the reconstruction work, and restore the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the measures that lasted for a little more than 23 hours, the positions of the Armenian armed forces on the front line and in-depth and long-term firing points, as well as combat vehicles and military objects were destroyed by the use of high-precision weapons. The enemy raised a white flag. With this, the constitutional structure was restored in all territories of Azerbaijan. At present, the glorious tricolor flag of Azerbaijan is waving everywhere in Karabakh.
The Day of Restoration of Independence is a working day.
