Azerbaijani Ombudswoman appeals over Garadaghli tragedy

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudswoman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has issued an appeal over the tragedy in the village of Garadaghli, Report informs, citing the Office of the Ombudswoman.

The appeal reads:

"30 years have passed since the genocide committed by Armenia against the people of Azerbaijan in the village of Garadaghli. On February 17, 1992, the Armenian armed forces committed genocide against the civilian population of the village of Garadaghli in the Khojavand District of Azerbaijan. As a result of this bloody crime, the village of Garadaghli was occupied and completely burned, 118 civilians were taken hostage, of which 68 were brutally murdered.

“The genocide in Garadaghli, which is a manifestation of hatred towards the Azerbaijani people and a continuation of the policy of aggression and ethnic cleansing carried out by the military-political leadership of Armenia against Azerbaijanis, should receive a legal assessment from international organizations. And the people who committed this crime against peace and humanity must be held accountable," the appeal reads.
