As part of ongoing economic and legislative reforms, draft amendments to several bills, including the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code, have been submitted to the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan for approval, Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-designate and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan said.

According to Report, speaking at the opening ceremony of the international conference titled "Law and Climate" in Baku, Minister Babayev noted that the proposed amendments cover the laws "On Wildlife," "On Fisheries," "On Hunting," and "On the Protection of Greenery."

“Azerbaijan is also taking significant steps towards increasing the use of renewable energy sources and developing green energy technologies. The government has set a target of increasing the share of renewable energy in electricity production capacity to 30% by 2030. The construction of solar and wind power plants in the Absheron region and other areas demonstrates Azerbaijan's commitment to this goal,” Babayev said.

In addition to renewable energy initiatives, Azerbaijan is focusing on promoting electric vehicles in the transport sector, developing an environmentally friendly industry, restoring forests, and combating land degradation, the minister said. “These measures are crucial in the fight against climate change and ensuring sustainable development.”
