The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is ready to help the Azerbaijani government in bringing back its citizens from Ukraine after the start of conflict with Russia, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, chief of IOM Azerbaijan, told Report.
He reminded that the IOM in Azerbaijan supported the government in bringing back 123 citizens from Ukraine.
He noted that overall the organization is supposed to assist in the return of 200 citizens: “With the support of the IOM, we were supposed to return 200 people. We were able to make sure that 123 of them left Krakow (Poland) on the way to Bucharest (Romania) and from there the Azerbaijani government will provide the additional transportation.”
“Sometimes we need to make some priorities and provide assistance in bringing back those who are the most vulnerable, but at the end of the day everybody deserves the right to return back home,” he said, noting that the organization is ready to provide the quick support to Azerbaijani citizens, affected from this conflict.
He added that the work to bring back the Azerbaijani citizens from Ukraine is a collaborative approach of several governmental agencies and IOM missions.
“That’s the way how we are trying best to assist Azerbaijani citizens who are leaving Ukraine because of the current conflict… The aim and objective of our work together is to bring back Azerbaijani citizens back home in the best possible way and as fast as possible, where they can feel comfortable living in peace and security,” he concluded.
