The Western Azerbaijani Community issued a statement condemning the torture committed against an Azerbaijani soldier in Armenia.
Report informs that the statement reads:
"Armenian media circulated photo and video materials related to an unarmed serviceman of the Azerbaijani Army with his hands tied behind his back who was tortured by this country’s law-enforcement bodies and other people. This is another eloquent evidence of Armenia’s grave breach of its obligations under the Geneva Convention, Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and other important international acts, and widespread ethnic hatred and racial discrimination against Azerbaijanis in this country.
"Zangazur land, which was predominantly populated by Azerbaijanis who were later expelled back in the days, once again witnessed Armenia’s torturing Azerbaijanis. Organizers of this ruthless crime aim at deepening the feud between the peoples even more and deterring Azerbaijanis from returning there by creating an environment of fear.
"The Western Azerbaijan Community strongly condemns this loathsome crime and urges the international community to give a legal assessment to the actions of the Armenian government and crime perpetrators and ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Azerbaijani servicemen who got lost by passing to the Armenia-controlled area due to the adverse weather conditions.”
