Azerbaijan celebrates last Tuesday before Novruz holiday

Azerbaijan is today marking the last Tuesday before Novruz holiday - the Earth Tuesday.

Report informs that this day is marked more solemnly than previous Tuesdays.

The festivities last all day long and reach their peak towards the evening.

When marking the Earth Tuesday, our ancestors gave tribute to Mother Earth, its wealth and bounties. This day is full of rituals that symbolize well-being in the coming new year, liberation from adversity and troubles.

Previously, in villages, each family lit torches on the roof of their houses by the number of family members. Today, instead of torches, people light candles in homes according to the number of family members. Another tradition of the last Tuesday celebration is fortune-telling on a ring. According to popular belief, salt, water, money, bread, matches, oil and dairy products should not be given from home on this day. The last Tuesday before Novruz should be spent at home. Otherwise, you will be celebrating the holiday outside your home for seven years.
