Alparslan Bayraktar: “Turkiye’s demand for natural gas has tripled in the last 20 years”

On the first day of the conference within the Baku Energy Forum, Alparslan Bayraktar, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkiye, said Turkiye’s demand for natural gas has increased threefold, according to Report.

According to him, in the last 3 years Turkiye’s demand for natural gas has risen from 50 billion to 60 billion cubic meters: “Turkiye is the biggest gas consumer in Europe and 70% of natural gas is currently imported.”

The deputy minister stated that Russia is the main gas supplier to Turkiye: “Recently the USA has been taking 3rd place on gas exports to our country. Turkiye highly values the Trans-Anadolu Gas Pipeline (TANAP). However, we keep looking for alternative gas sources.”

Bayraktar said that currently Turkiye opts for diversification of energy sources, particularly alternative and renewable energy to meet its energy demand.
