Astana, Ashgabat eye expanding co-op in gas sector

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have agreed to expand cooperation in the gas sector, the Kazakh bureau of Report informs referring to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

The agreement was reached following a meeting in Astana between Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev and State Minister of Turkmenistan - Chairman of the state concern Turkmengaz Maksat Babayev.

"At the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the countries in the gas industry and the possibility of participating in joint projects. Following the talks, a Memorandum of Intent was signed between Turkmengaz and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to strengthen cooperation between the countries in the gas industry," the Ministry of Energy reported.

During the meeting, Satkaliyev expressed confidence that through joint efforts, the countries will be able to bring mutually beneficial cooperation to a new level of strategic partnership.
