Azerbaijan’s Lachin district has produced over 80 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green energy, Tofig Islamov, the acting executive director of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in Lachin stated during a panel discussion at the Caspian Construction Week, Report informs.

Islamov noted that in line with Azerbaijan's green energy strategy, hydroelectric power plants are planned for 11 locations in the Lachin district. Some have already been established, and the construction of others is currently underway.

He added that this initiative has saved more than 20 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the emission of 32,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The acting director also pointed out that the reconstruction process prioritizes environmental protection and the use of alternative energy sources, in accordance with the COP29 plan. This commitment is reflected in the installation of solar panels on the roofs of houses and the use of hybrid-solar lamps for urban lighting.

Islamov emphasized that solar panels have been installed in 24 individual houses in Lachin city to ensure stable energy supply, while 9 houses are connected to solar collectors. He stated that in Zabukh and Sus villages, all residential buildings, two schools, and administrative buildings are equipped with solar panels.
