Earth will run out of fossil energy resources in 50 years, says Xue Qikun, President of Southern University of Science and Technology of China and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,
The scientist noted that there have been three industrial revolutions over the past 250 years thanks to the increase in the extraction of fossil fuels around the world.
Taking this into account and the pace of development of the world economy, the scientist expects the depletion of hydrocarbon resources over the next half-century. Therefore, to maintain the current level of progress, he calls for replacing the usual fossil fuels with alternative energy sources.
Xue Qikun particularly noted solar energy, which, according to him, is almost inexhaustible.
Besides, he suggests considering the possibility of replacing coal and natural gas with hydrogen fuel.
