Expert: Bulgaria is attractive in delivering additional gas volumes of Azerbaijan to Europe

Bulgaria is an attractive country for Azerbaijan as a transit country, that is, in terms of the implementation of existing agreements, including the delivery of additional gas volumes from Azerbaijan to Europe during the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor and its last main segment, the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), by the head of the Oil Center Research, an expert on energy issues, Ilham Shaban told Report.

"According to official statistics, Bulgaria is the cheapest country that buys the gas exported by Azerbaijan to Europe. Greece and Italy offer us a higher price for gas transportation than Bulgaria," said the expert.

Speaking about the strategic cooperation between the two countries, Shaban noted that Azerbaijan and Bulgaria signed an agreement on the purchase and sale of gas on September 19, 2013:

"According to this agreement, Bulgaria undertook to import 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan for 25 years. On the other hand, yesterday, in the meeting of the President of Azerbaijan with his Bulgarian counterpart, one of the good news was that Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Serbia expressed their interest in buying Azerbaijani gas through Bulgaria without creating any new infrastructure."
