Lithuanian-Swedish NordBalt energy bridge shuts down due to equipment failure

The NordBalt interconnector between Lithuania and Sweden has been disconnected on May 6 morning, according to the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, Report informs referring to Interfax.

According to the company, initial data shows that the high-voltage direct current line was switched off due to a fault at the converter station on the Swedish side.

According to Litgrid, after the NordBalt shutdown, reserves were used and there were no interruptions in the power supply to Lithuanian consumers.

The NordBalt project, worth 550 million euros, was implemented by Litgrid and the Swedish Svenska kraftnat. The 700 MW interconnector has been operating since 2016.
