Satkaliev: Kazakhstan considers increasing oil transit via BTC by 13 times

Kazakhstan is exploring the possibility of increasing annual oil supplies through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline from 1.5 million tons to 20 million tons, Kazakh Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliev said, Report informs via Interfax-Kazakhstan.

"For 2024, the delivery of Kazakh oil through BTC is planned at 1.5 million tons. Prospects for increasing supplies through this route to volumes of up to 20 million tons per year are being studied," Satkaliev said during a government hour in parliament.

Thus, the volume of supplies through BTC could increase by more than 13 times.

The minister noted that there is interest in increasing the volume of Kazakh oil supplies through BTC "both from our side and from Azerbaijani partners."

Kazakhstan began supplies through BTC last year to diversify its oil export routes.

Azerbaijan's state oil company and KazMunayGas signed an agreement to transport 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil annually through this pipeline.

Exports began in April 2023.
