Paris denies Seine water causing Olympic athletes' health woes

The Paris City Council has refuted claims that the water quality in the Seine River is responsible for the gastrointestinal infections affecting athletes participating in the Paris Olympic Games.
According to Report, Deputy Mayor of Paris, Pierre Rabadan, addressed the concerns during an interview with Franceinfo. He emphasized that even athletes who had not swum in the river reported falling ill, stating, "The competitions took place four days ago, so many things can happen in between... There is no evidence to suggest a link with the water quality."

Rabadan further reassured the public by revealing that water samples taken before the swimming events showed "excellent" results. The city of Paris is actively discussing the possibility of hosting future competitions in the Seine and opening urban beaches along the river.

However, reports from Nieuwsblad indicate that Belgian athlete Claire Michel was hospitalized with an E. coli infection following her participation in the Olympic swim in the Seine. The Swiss triathlon team also had to replace one of their athletes due to an infection, although the Swiss Olympic Committee stated that it was "impossible to judge" if there was a connection between the illness and the Seine's water quality.
