As an international payment technology company, Visa is making every effort to create the conditions necessary for the launch of new payment services in Azerbaijan, Visa’s Regional Manager for the Caucasus Cristina Doros told
According to Doros, one of the main directions for Visa is to create an infrastructure for the development of contactless, including tokenized, payments.
“Our goal is to make contactless payments available to more consumers and merchants. The launch of Visa Token Service in Azerbaijan in September 2019 became the starting point for the rapid growth of tokenized transactions in the country, including through smartphones and wearable devices.
"In Azerbaijan, we work closely with financial institutions and are ready to provide them with our support to launch solutions with Pays when our partners are ready for it,” she said.
Earlier, Visa provided certain support to the activities of such international payment systems as Paypal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay in Azerbaijan.
Of the listed payment systems, only Paypal has a one-way activity in Azerbaijan. That is, a plastic card user who is in Azerbaijan can pay using the system, but cannot receive payments.
