EURO 2020: UEFA appoints medical expert due to coronavirus

UEFA has designated an expert medical consultant for the organization of the European Championship in the pandemic.

According to Report, he is Daniel Cox, head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Swiss Federal Health Service. Cox must provide medical support to the European Football Association and the 12 host cities.

The goal is to minimize health risks while maximizing the number of spectators.

The Swiss doctor Sierra Leone has worked as a medical coordinator for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Uganda, South Africa, and Peru. In his homeland, Cox led a group to fight atypical pneumonia from 2002 to 2003.

"I am optimistic that we will find the best solution in close cooperation with all our partners to make EURO 2020 safer for all participants and, I hope, for more fans," he said.

The European Championships in 2020 has been postponed to June 11 - July 11 this year due to a coronavirus pandemic. EURO 2020 will be hosted by Baku, St. Petersburg, London, Munich, Rome, Bucharest, Dublin, Copenhagen, Bilbao, Glasgow, Budapest, and Amsterdam. Baku Olympic Stadium will receive Group A matches Switzerland - Wales, Turkey - Wales, and Turkey - Switzerland, as well as one match of the quarterfinals.
