Footballer dies after being struck by lightning during match

In a tragic incident during a football match on November 3, Peruvian defender José Hugo de la Cruz Meza lost his life after being struck by lightning. The lightning strike also left at least one other player injured, as reported by local media, Report informs via FootBoom.

Along with the deceased defender, goalkeeper Juan Choca is in critical condition with severe burns. The health status of other players who were affected by the lightning remains unknown.

The incident occurred around 4:00 PM local time (21:00 GMT) at the Coto Coto Stadium in Chicha, located in the Huancayo department, where two local teams, Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, were playing under stormy conditions.

A video captured the exact moment the lightning struck, causing several players to collapse simultaneously on the field.
