Azerbaijani community representative meets UN special rapporteur in Geneva

Ulviyya Zulfiqar, Head of the Public Relations and Western Azerbaijan Television Department of the Western Azerbaijan Community, met with Surya Deva, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, during the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Report informs.

During the meeting, Ulviyya Zulfiqar informed the special rapporteur about the deportation of 300,000 Azerbaijanis from Armenia during the last wave of expulsions in 1987-1991. She emphasized that these individuals are still unable to return to their homes, constituting a violation of their right to development. Zulfiqar requested that the special rapporteur address this issue within his mandate.

Surya Deva assured that he would closely examine the raised concerns. The community representative presented the Special Rapporteur with the Return Concept of the Western Azerbaijan Community, which has been published in all official UN languages.
