The event, which was held with the participation of the COP29 President-designate, the Ecology and Natural Resources Minister of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev, was attended by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero of the UK Ed Miliband, the Under-Secretary Kerry McCarthy, the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps in the UK Alistair Harrison, the President of COP26, a member of the House of Lords Alok Sharma, the former Trade Envoy of the Prime Minister of the UK to Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson, as well as other parliamentarians and senior diplomats.

Speaking at the opening, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom Elin Suleymanov called it significant that the first official event in the new administrative building of the embassy was dedicated to COP29, and also emphasized the symbolic significance of the participation of the President-designate of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev and the British Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband.

Suleymanov expressed gratitude to the British side for supporting Azerbaijan in this important endeavour from day one.

Ambassador Elin Suleymanov also thanked the British side for the hospitality extended by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the European Political Community summit held recently in England, as well as for the warm meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, David Lammy and Jeyhun Bayramov.
