Azerbaijan, having experienced the period of occupation of its territories, understands Pakistan on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan's ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee said at a briefing held in Baku on the occasion of the Exploitation Day in solidarity with Kashmiris celebrated in Pakistan.
"August 5, a tragic day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, is an important date for Pakistan. On this date in 2019, the residents of the province were deprived of their rights once recognized and protected by the Constitution of India," Hayee noted.
He stressed that the amendments to the Indian Constitution removed Jammu and Kashmir's level of autonomy and the right to make laws: "Azerbaijan is well aware of the hardships and horrors of war and takes a principled position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Both Azerbaijan and Pakistan always consider the observance of norms and principles of international law as a basis."
After the briefing, the press representatives and other guests got acquainted with the photo exhibition, which tells about the history of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict.
