Bryza: Today US doesn’t have great credibility as leader of democracy

It’s not time for the US to hold a summit for democracy in terms of its reputation and the fact that today the US does not have a great credibility as leader of democracy, a senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center, international expert Matthew Bryza told Report.

“We still have one of the major US parties falsely claiming that the last election was stolen from Donald Trump and is willing to try to change the election laws in the US to make it easier next time to steal the election if their candidate does not win,” he said.

He also noted that it’s not a good idea for the US to convene the summit for the democracy, because to do so the US government needs to decide which democracies are good ones, and which ones are bad that don’t deserve to be invited: “The invitation list has nothing to do with Turkic-speaking states or whether a country has a Muslim majority,” he said, adding that Biden is not Islamophobic.
