Azerbaijan is a crucial economic partner for Latvia, as evidenced by the significant increase in trade turnover between the two countries over the past two years, Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Edgars Skuja said during an event commemorating the 106th anniversary of the declaration of Latvia's independence, Report informs.

Ambassador Skuja emphasized that both nations are interested in broad-scale economic cooperation and increasing trade turnover. "Next year, we plan to expand cooperation in many areas of the economy," he stated. "In addition, we have established active cooperation ties between municipalities and see a growing interest among Azerbaijani youth in studying in Latvia."

The ambassador expressed gratitude for the current excellent state of Latvian-Azerbaijani relations, adding, "I believe that we will continue to make joint efforts to further strengthen our ties and deepen cooperation for the welfare of our peoples."

He added that throughout the year, numerous political and working visits took place, including those by the Speaker and members of the Latvian Parliament, as well as various government delegations. "We have implemented many cultural projects together, both in Azerbaijan and Latvia," Ambassador Skuja noted.

The diplomat also commended the high-level organization of the COP29 climate conference in Baku. "Today is the first working day after the conclusion of the COP29 climate conference, and I would like to congratulate everyone on the successful outcomes of this very important mission," he said. "I express my gratitude to the COP29 Presidency and all organizers for the professional conduct of such a landmark event and congratulate them on the agreement reached."
