Expert: Italy seeks to further expand co-op with Azerbaijan

The prospects for economic diversification undertaken by Baku find synergy in the Italian desire to forge further relations with the economic fabric of Azerbaijan, Italian political scientist Domenico Letizia told Report.

He was commenting on the visit of Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso to Azerbaijan and his participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the biggest thermal power plant of the period of independence with a capacity of 1,280 MW.

During the visit, the Italian company Ansaldo Energia and the Azerbaijani manufacturer Azerenerji signed an agreement on the supply of four combined cycle gas turbines for the Mingachevir station.

The expert noted that Italy and Azerbaijan have many projects to share. "Adolfo Urso, minister of business and Made in Italy, was very clear in reiterating that Azerbaijan is a very interesting country and it is extremely important to continue developing initiatives with Baku, to overcome energy problems and relaunch a new diplomacy between friendly countries that know how to condemn the continuous international violations committed by the Moscow authorities," said the expert.

"Regarding Karabakh, after the liberation from the occupation by Armenia, Azerbaijan is rebuilding the urban fabric and infrastructure of the territory. The president of Azerbaijan wants to rebuild this territory with the best technologies and with the best logistics in the world and the synergy and the many economic opportunities for Italy also arise from this vision: made in Italy and Italian manufacturing excellence will be very useful to Azerbaijan and the liberated territories," Letizia added.

"Italian companies are satisfied with all these dynamics and we hope it will be useful to further strengthen our economic and cultural diplomacy."
