Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's latest visit to Georgia laid the foundation for strengthening cooperation in all areas of bilateral relations, primarily economic ones, Shota Apkhaidze, director of the Georgian Center for Islamic Studies of the Caucasus, told Report.
According to the expert, an important issue during the discussions was the transportation of Azerbaijan's energy sources in transit through Georgia to Europe.
"The energy crisis in Georgia is manifested in many sectors, so partnership in this direction is very important for Georgia," Apkhaidze noted.
Commenting on the issue of increasing the volume of freight traffic in the East-West direction, or as it is also called the Middle Corridor, the expert said that the trilateral customs project, which involves the optimization of tariffs and the implementation of a single tariff policy by Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkiye is very important for the further development of trade, exports and imports between countries, the expert said.
