French MP: We can initiate peace talks, as Azerbaijan restored its borders

"As Azerbaijan has restored its internationally recognized borders, we can initiate peace talks," a member France-Azerbaijan Friendship Group in France's National Assembly, MP Michel Vialay, told the French bureau of Report.

According to him, the sides should respect the terms of the trilateral agreement signed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia on November 10, 2020: "This agreement is in line with UN resolutions and means to comply with them. Of course, we all hoped that the OSCE Minsk Group would resolve this conflict without a war. Unfortunately, the Minsk Group has been negligent in resolving the dispute. Naturally, tensions remain between the two countries in the post-war period. Such cases have existed in all countries. It takes time to restore peace and prevent tensions."

The French MP also touched upon the destruction caused by Armenians during the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh: "For 30 years, Armenians have ruined the occupied territories. Moreover, at the end of the war, while leaving the liberated territories, they burned houses and caused great damage. There is a need to rebuild all the infrastructure. Azerbaijan's ability to restore its borders will also play a positive role in this regard. The start of reconstruction work allows opportunities for the restoration of peace, which in turn opens up great prospects for building a peaceful future."

Vialay stressed that the infrastructure in Nagorno-Karabakh would be built based on new technologies, which in turn is a chance to provide more appropriate equipment for environmental protection and other issues. "Reconstruction of infrastructure in Nagorno-Karabakh opens up great opportunities for the use of more suitable means for environmental protection. Thus, it is easier to apply environmentally friendly methods when installing new equipment."
