Relations between Georgia and Turkey have intensified to the highest point, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said, answering the question of Chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign relations Nikoloz Samkharadze about ties with strategic partners, the Georgian bureau of Report informs.
Garibashvili said that Turkey is Georgia’s strategic and trade partner number one. “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his readiness to develop trade and economic ties further. There is a positive trend in these relations. We want to increase trade with Turkey to $3 billion, and this should become one of our tasks for the coming years. At the same time, we are holding discussions in the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia trilateral format,” he noted.
Garibashvili added that this year, it is planned to hold a Georgia-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.
Once again, the prime minister touched upon Georgia’s mediation between Azerbaijan and Armenia: “Successful mediation can be continued with our involvement and direct participation in the process. The dialogue platform that we offer to friendly countries is a unique opportunity for Georgia to establish itself as one of the main initiators of peace and stability in the region.”
