ICJ decides to consider Azerbaijan's claim against Armenia

The International Court of Justice has decided to consider Azerbaijan's lawsuit against Armenia, including the substantive facts related to landmines, despite objections raised by the Armenian side, Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov wrote on X, Report informs.

"The International Court of Justice has today confirmed that Azerbaijan’s case against Armenia for ethnic cleansing and other acts of racial discrimination during its decades of occupation of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory will proceed. The Court has also rejected Armenia’s attempt to exclude from the jurisdiction of the Court the claims relating to Armenia’s practice of laying of landmines and booby traps. It is vital to secure justice for the victims of Armenia’s landmine campaigns, a number that tragically continues to grow to this day," he wrote. "With regards to Azerbaijan’s Preliminary Objections in the case brought by Armenia, the Court has importantly reserved all analysis of the facts and evidence underlying Armenia’s unsupported allegations for the merits phase. Azerbaijan is confident that the evidence examined by the Court will show that no breach of international law has been committed."
