The position of all members of the CSTO is well known - they are against conflict with Azerbaijan, Russian political scientist, director of the Center for Political Studies Sergey Markov told the Russian bureau of Report.
The political scientist noted that the meeting of the CSTO heads of state in Yerevan will be important from the point of view of the key meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He stressed that in addition to military cooperation within the agreement, there are also bilateral agreements in this area between Russia and Armenia, and under these conditions, Yerevan puts pressure on Moscow, demanding more active assistance, otherwise threatening to turn towards the West - France, the US, NATO.
Markov spoke about the importance of the expected bilateral talks between the leaders of Russia and Armenia. “It is at the bilateral talks that a very important conversation between Putin and Pashinyan will take place, as a result of which, perhaps, serious and fundamental changes will occur. Practical issues will also be discussed, such as the preparation of a peace treaty and its signing, issues of transport corridors. Russia is pushing Armenia to agree to the opening of the Zangazur corridor, as well as to the resolution of issues of demarcation and delimitation of borders with Azerbaijan,” he said.
