The memory of the first Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine, prominent statesman and writer Yusif Vazir Chamanzaminli has been immortalized in Ukraine.
In connection with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, a large lecture hall and a bas-relief named after Yusif Vazir Chamanzaminli, who was the first ambassador in this country in 1918, was opened at the most prestigious educational institution of the country - Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The opening of a lecture hall and a bas-relief named after Chamanzaminli at the Kyiv National University is not accidental. At one time, it was at this university that he received his higher education.
The opening ceremony, organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine jointly with the leadership of the university, was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan Elmira Akhundova, University Rector Vladimir Bugrov, members of the staff of this higher educational institution, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Ambassador Extraordinary, researcher of the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Vilayat Guliyev, Chamanzaminli's grandson, department chief at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Yusif Vezirov, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi and Rostislav Karandeev, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, embassy staff, representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora and the local scientific community.
Ambassador Elmira Akhundova noted that the perpetuation of Chamanzamanli's memory in Kyiv was a priority from the very beginning: "We reflected on this issue for a long time, then consulted with research scientist Vilayat Guliyev, after which we put forward an initiative to open a bas-relief and a lecture hall bearing his name. Chamanzamanly not only carried a diplomatic activity here, but he was also actively engaged in public and literary activities in Ukraine. Today, the book 'Students' presented here is a clear result of his activity."
Recalling that these events are taking place ahead of the 30th anniversary of restoring diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Ambassador Elmira Akhundova spoke about the successful development of relations between the two independent countries over the past period.
