“It is gratifying that our inter-parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the IPA CIS remains an effective mechanism of partnership between the Commonwealth countries. Today, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy continues to grow noticeably, capable of realizing its creative potential on a wide international scale,” Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova told the 53rd plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, Report's Russian bureau informs.
Sahiba Gafarova expressed gratitude to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko for the high level of organization of the meeting and congratulated her on re-election.
"It is worth emphasizing that thanks to new ideas, projects and important international events, interest in the assembly is constantly growing. This is evidenced by the steadily increasing number of participants in various events," the Azerbaijani speaker said.
Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan with great enthusiasm will take over the chairmanship of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states next year: "I am confident that the Youth Assembly will continue the contribution of young parliamentarians to the overall development of our cooperation."
The speaker of the Milli Majlis also referred to the trilateral statement signed in November 2020: “As a result of Russia’s mediation, on November 10, 2020, a trilateral statement was signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, which put an end to the 30-year-old conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have kicked off restoration and large-scale reconstruction work in the liberated territories. I am confident that very soon we will be able to have our internally displaced persons, who suffered from the occupation, to return to these places."
"We want stability and prosperity in the entire region, we want to talk not about war, but about peace and the future," she stressed.
