Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, as part of her official visit to Slovakia, has met with Prime Minister Eduard Heger, Report informs.
During the meeting, the prime minister stressed that Azerbaijan is a friendly country for Slovakia and noted that they are interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan in various directions. Heger emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in the economic sphere.
Sahiba Gafarova noted that this is her first visit to Slovakia at the level of the Azerbaijani parliament speaker. She expressed hope that the meetings and discussions held during the visit will give impetus to bilateral relations and the development of inter-parliamentary ties. Gafarova also noted that the parliaments of the two countries cooperate within a number of international organizations.
The parliament speaker informed the prime minister of Slovakia in detail about Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, restoration of territorial integrity and historical justice.
She spoke about the provocations of Armenia that impede peace and security in the region, noting that as a result of the explosion of mines planted by Armenia, 150 civilians and servicemen of Azerbaijan were killed and seriously injured. This shows once again that Armenia continues to grossly violate international humanitarian law, she added.
During the conversation, Sahiba Gafarova spoke about the work to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Azerbaijan, about international events held in this area at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.
The parties also discussed issues of mutual interest. At the end of the meeting Gafarova handed over to Heger the book “Karabakh before and after the occupation.”
